 Balsall & Berkeswell 8 - 3 Bilton Ajax

We lost heavily today though the gap between the teams was not really that great.

In fact, a spirited performance in the second half should have narrowed or even equalised the scores. Most of the Balsall goals came from well aimed corners which we struggled to defend.

The team showed flashes of last weeks brilliance with a lot of good passing and unselfish teamwork.  Tom Ogelthorpe and Josh Ireson are flourishing on the wings getting in some great crosses and through balls. Well placed goals came from Simon Cox and Matthew Gibbard up front. Ruairi O’Brien and Stuart Clarke battled hard in defence with Daniel Harbord (Captain) and Dennis Page and Danny Downes also had good matches.

3 new players have joined the team: Tom Carey (goalie), Toby Mearns and Daniel Nutt.

Bilton Ajax 2 v 5 Alveston

It was a cracking match today with the lads coming out strong and competitive right from the start.

3 minutes in and an early goal from Simon Cox who back- kicked into the air and then headed in his own ball! Brilliant defending from Ruairi O’Brien prevented an immediate comeback. Matthew Gibbard scored late in the first half after a number of his shots were just over and just wide.

It was an excellent team performance against the best in the league.  Brandon Smith and Tom Oglethorpe fought injury to play today.  Daniel Nutt and Toby Mearns both made appearances for the club.

MOTM was Tom Carey in goal who bravely stopped a dozen or more shots from Alveston.  Well done to everyone!

Bilton Ajax 0 v 15 Wellesbourne

We were unable to field a full team today because of injuries and absences.

Those that came though played with their usual spirit and determination even as the goals mounted up.

There were some excellent individual performances as well and MOTM today went to Daniel Harbord for his strength and pace in defence.

It was a difficult match against a class side but the club were proud of all who took part and look forward to a full team for the next match!

Fenny Compton 5 – 4 Bilton Ajax

This was for sure the game of 2 halves today! 4-0 down at half time was a score reflective of a team lacking the confidence to play the football that can be played by Ajax. After some changes to the set up at half time the team stepped up to the challenge. Charles Khawula made a fine debut up front, and driven by Captain Daniel Harbord the team poured forward with good football at every opportunity. Fine work from Josh Ireson (MOTM) and some superb keeping from Tom Carey showed everyone how attitude can make the difference. Matty Gibbard, the scorer of all 4 goals today, worked well alongside Simon Cox. Tom Oglethorpe, Stuart Clarke and Ruairi O'Brien tirelessly worked the flanks, whilst the mid-field got stuck in to win ball. With seconds on the clock, Brandon Smith rose above the defence to thunder a corner ball against the bar, which denied this team a deserved draw for a fantastic performance. Well done lads!

Bilton Ajax 3 – 3 Hillmorton Under 12’s

A point at last! The team played a strong and competitive game today in an exciting match which included 2 penalties.

Matthew Gibbard (MOTM) converted our penalty and scored a well deserved second.  Brandon Smith, back from injury, pulled off the third with a sweet, looping strike from 25 yards out which completely fooled the goalie!

There was good co-ordinated defending from Ruairi O’Brien, Daniel Harbord (C) and Stu Clarke.

Well done to the whole team!

Sunday 2 November 2008

Bilton Ajax 3 v 5 Balsall & Berkeswell

The team played with real skill and spirit today – sadly, the scoreline didn’t reflect such a hard fought match!

2 goals down after 4 minutes, the team swung decisively into action. Simon Cox scored after 12 minutes and Matthew Gibbard equalised with a penalty after 18 minutes. At half time the teams were 3 goals all after a Matthew Gibbard shot deflected off Simon Cox and flew into the net.

Though Balsall scored a further 2 in the second half, much of the activity was in their half with some great play up front.  MOTM was Tom Oglethorpe for grafting so hard down the left wing. Keelan Offer made his first appearance for the team. The team has really come together now, it’s just goals and points we need!

Sunday 9 November 2008

Central Ajax 4 - 2 Bilton Ajax

League Cup 1st Round

Showers, strong winds and a waterlogged pitch made play very difficult today and the lads struggled to clinch the match.

We were 3 -1 down at half time despite an excellent goal from Matthew Gibbard.  The first half had seen good pressure up front with Charles Khawola nearly scoring his first for the club – unfortunately cleared off their goal line!

A goal from Tom Ogelthorpe in the second half kept our hopes open but Central Ajax scored a further two.

MOTM was Ruari O’Brien for his dogged defending today.  It was a brave performance in difficult conditions!

Sunday 23 November 08

Bilton Ajax 3- 2 Southam United

It was a thrilling match today, played out in near freezing conditions and the team recorded their first win of the season!

We were 2-1 up at half time with the teams head to head in fast, competitive play.

Into the second half and Southam scored first but then came the winning goal - a well deserved hat trick for Matthew Gibbard.  Tom ‘Scarey’ Carey again proved a safe pair of hands in goal with some strong defending from the back 4 of Josh Ireson, Ruari O’Brien, Brandon Smith and Daniel Harbord (C).

There were excellent contributions from everyone – Denis Paige had a shot cleared off the line, Danny Downes battled hard in midfield with Adam Huxford, and Charles Khawola broke through the Southam defence several times.

Well done to everyone - victory is sweet!

Sunday 30th November

Bilton Ajax 3 v 5 Tazmanian Cruisers

Three excellent goals today from Brandon Smith, Tom Ogelthorpe and Adam Huxford.  Not quite enough to clinch the match but nevertheless a good solid performance from the lads.

Some excellent controlled headers this week also from Adam and others + lots of intelligent passing between the wings and forwards.  Keelan Offer played well up front and it was good to have Stuart Clarke back battling in defence.

We’re not exactly where we wanted to be at this point but we’re only half way through the season!

Sunday 7 December 2008

Bilton Ajax 10 - 0 Southam United Dynamos

Supplementary Cup 1st Round

A superior performance today saw the under 12’s decisively through to the next round of the Supplementary Cup.

8 goals came thick and fast in the first half from Simon Cox (3), Adam Huxford (MOTM), Danny Downes, Josh Ireson and Matthew Gibbard (2).  Matthew then added a further 2 in the second half. Denis Paige, Toby Mearns and Charles Khawola also nearly scored.

The lads played a confident game, building on the new 4-2-4 attacking formation which is working well for them. Passing, heading, shooting and teamwork is all improving.  Excellent defending at the back today from Daniel Harbord, Stuart Clarke & Josh Ireson with Tom Carey in goal. Well done to all the team + the manager and coaches who have been patiently working with them!

Sunday 14th December 2008

Bilton Ajax 1 – 3 Kenilworth Town

The lads played a skilful and tenacious game today against one of the best in the league, narrowly failing to win – in fact a draw would have been a fairer result.

It was one all at half time – an excellent goal from Adam Huxford who played another strong game. Ajax had had most of the possession and most of the shots on goal.

Early on in the second half though we conceded a penalty which went in off the post and a third goal then followed.

Strong defending again from the back 4 of Ruari O’Brien, Josh Ireson (MOTM), Daniel Harbord and Brandon Smith.  Plenty of shots from Simon Cox and Matthew Gibbard but somehow their keeper, or the cross bar, was always there! Denis Paige very nearly scored his first of the season as well. Despite the scoreline, plenty of encouraging aspects to the game today.

Sunday 21st December 2008

Wellsbourne Wanderers 2 – 2 Bilton Ajax

Today saw a tremendous effort and result from the Bilton Ajax team. Tom Hughesy Carey, Stuart Clarke, Daniel Harbord, Ruairi O'Brien, Tom Oglethorpe, Brandon Smith, Adam Huxford, Denis Page, Danny Downes, Charles Khawula and Toby Mearns turned around a 15-0 previous encounter with Wellsbourne to a much deserved 2-2 draw. Today saw two top draw goals from Keelan Offer and Matty Gibbard to finish 2008 with a very Happy Christmas for the under 12 parents and players alike.

Everyone was a MOTM today!

Well done everyone, here's to a continued improvement in form and luck for 2009.

Have a great Christmas
